Telefon Tel Aviv’s 2001 debut Fahrenheit Fair Enough saw IDM meets post-rock and follow-up Map of What is Effortless integrated soul vocals into their brand of laptop glitch; both releases proving TTA possess a sense of melody that few artists in the electronic music field can claim. Continuing the trend of transforming their approach on each album, Immolate Yourself takes on hazy 80s nostalgia with modern production techniques recently popularized by acts such as Junior Boys.

Known for their meticulous attention to detail, even for their remixes (A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, various artists on Hefty Records) and collaborations (The Album Leaf, Black Light Burns), these signatures are still present even without glitched-up meticulous sound design. TTA uses analogue synthesizers for compositions more organic compared to those previous clever technical manipulations. Whispered vocals and quiet tension evokes moody 80s synthpop of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Some songs are still off-kilter, but upbeat moments such as the triumphant chorus of lead single “Helen of Troy” sees them exploring new territory.
